....so, what are we going to do about Chris Pronger and his contract!!?
Did you hear, the Flyers are going to trade James vanRiemsdyk??
BOBROVSKY IS THE NUMBER 1 GOALIE, I HATE BRYZ, HE SUCKS.....
Okay, this article isn't about the negativity that has hit this city since the Flyers moved into 2nd place in the Atlantic. I understand the frustration from the fanbase but most times it's misplaced.
Think about that for a second; 2nd place in the Atlantic. Four points from the top spot in the East. They are second in the Atlantic without Chris Pronger, future Hall of Famer, and have done it with a carousel between the pipes. They traded away stars Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, but are up 3% on the Power Play and have the same percentage on the Penalty Kill from last season. 2nd in all of hockey in goals-scored per game. They are 2nd in the Atlantic with Andreas Lilja playing 30-games.....
Shocking.
How have they really done it though? By the remarks of people on line, I would have sworn the Flyers would be dead last in the East with the way people are talking about our Huskie loving goalie, Ilya Bryzgalov. Yes, I know, he's been bad this year, right? What goaltender doesn't go through a rough stretch?
Tim Thomas? The guy who lost his starting gig to Tuukka Rask a few seasons ago (I know he did battle some injuries)? How 'bout Ryan Miller? Ask a Sabres fan how much they love Ryan. They'd prefer Jhonas Enroth. Imagine that? They want the backup?
Ask a Hawks fan who they want to play game in and game out. It would be a 50/50 split between Crawford and Emery.
I know people are pissed at Bryz for taking $51 million to play a sport for our favorite team, my question, why wouldn't he? Why blame Bryz? Blame the agent.
People are worried that Sergei Bobrovsky might be gone when his contract runs out in 2013. My thing is, why worry about the future? I'm not even worried about February 1st, let alone 2013. As we've seen this season and past seasons (Pronger, Betts and Laperriere), many things can happen by the time that contract is up. Worry about this season.
The Flyers have done it with balanced scoring -- Claude Giroux is having an MVP season, Scott Hartnell is one of the best power forwards in hockey and Jaromir Jagr (when healthy) has looked like an All Star. They have done it with five rookies -- Matt Read, Zac Rinaldo , Harry Zolnierczyk, Sean Couturier, and Braydon Schenn (the future is very bright for these lads). They have done it with grit and determination which is what won the Flyers two Cups in the '70s.
So, before you jump off the bandwagon and maybe give up hope, just remember; When Laviolette has the Flyers headed towards the right direction again, and you want to hop back on, there won't be any room....
....especially with Pronger and Lappy taking up all the damn room in the handicapped seats.
