I wanna begin by saying that the following was not a knee-jerk tweet storm. It's been a long time coming. On the surface, I anticipate this being a very unpopular opinion. However, I am fully prepared to receive all types of feedback on this.... because, really, it won't be anything I haven't heard before. I did this for me and everyone who cares to know what my honest, uninhibited judgement is.

Let that shoe drop...

Couple things in hindsight: Using that Capitals-Penguins game was extreme. For starters, it's not every decade a lot of teams collect a pair of centers like the Penguins did in Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. We're talking about the two leading active scorers in the NHL today chosen at the tops of their Draft. They're generational players who've "magically" landed on the same team, at the same time. It'd be pretty ridiculous to use those two as a benchmark for realistic aspirations. But I thought I'd use an extreme example to drive a point across. And lastly, a game which finishes with a final score of 8 - 7 doesn't happen; in fact, I am not convinced that game wasn't just a dream to us all.

Also, I don't think our depth at center is what's costing us so much success this season, or in recent seasons. It's been a burden for sure, but I think we can all agree our defense corps and goaltending has been shaky in a variety of pivotal circumstances. Rest assure, when I glance at our organization's pipeline, our NHL's blueline and goaltending overflows with the most potential.

Mike DeNicola.... out.
