History WON'T Be Made, NHL To Take On New Playoffs Commercial Slogan
Alright, THIS upset me greatly.
So last night I'm sitting in my Man Room watching the Devils/Rangers match (which began in friggin' epic Ol' Time Hockey fashion) when it occurred to me -- Shouldn't we be starting to see those History Will Be Made commercials for the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs?
I took to Twitter --
The responses I received were incredibly depressing. In a nutshell, no. No, the NHL will not air any more History Will Be Made commercials before and throughout the post-season joviality.
No more goosebump-raising, hair-standing, adrenaline-pumping, (possibly)tear-jerking 30-seconds of this kind of stuff --
See what I mean? It's been, what.....two years since that moment? And the feeling I get in my entire body is as fresh as if it happened yesterday. A moment that will live on in my thoughts for the rest of my days. That juncture in sports will exist forever through the stories I pass down to my children and grandchildren, and - if they don't want me haunting their homes - they'll pass down to even further generations.
And the thing is, ALL of the History Will Be Made commercials do that to whichever home fanbase it reaches. It's a glorious innervation that gives you the sense that someone or something out there has higher power and influence than we humans. That moments like the one in the video above happen for a reason.
I dunno. Maybe I'm stretching this longer than it should be for the sake of making this article all dramatic, but these commercials have become an INSTANT tradition. I hope millions feel the same way.
So what does some schmuck in a suit say? "Can it!"
Yep, we won't be seeing those any longer. Instead, we'll be subjected to this crap --
That is one chick doing jumping-jacks away from being a Michelob Ultra commercial. I don't feel a damn thing. The post-season isn't about the fans, their friendly get-togethers, or the shoe polish they apply under their eyes.
History Will Be Made captured the spirit of Playoff Hockey brilliantly. Couldn't be more perfect than that. But some bastard had to burglarize and trash the whole thing.
Am I overreacting? Absolutely. But if I won't make a big deal about this, who will?
