Reports Say Meszaros To Have Surgery on His Herniated Disc >

Andrej Meszaros has been out of the lineup since 1-March against the New York Islanders. He was reported to be out indefinitely with a "lower-body injury". Until today, no one had clarification or full details behind the ailment.

Well, like I said, until today...

Howard Eskin is not what you'd call a likable sports reporter (and former radio show host) among the Philadelphia sports community. Be as it may, he still gets extremely great inside information on the Flyers. Always has.

And now this story is running rampant all over the Philadelphia sports news world.

If you can recall, the last Bully to go under the knife for a herniated disc was Chris Pronger back in May, 2011. In the case of Pronger, he had what's called a "bone spur" or Osteophyte, and it's ungodly painful --

Bone spurs on the spine can impinge on nerves that leave the spine for other parts of the body. This impingement can cause pain in both upper and lower limbs and a numbness or tingling sensations in the hands and feet because the nerves are supplying sensation to their dermatomes.

Now, I'm not saying Meszaros has this or is going through anything like this. But one thing's for certain; whatever it is, it's painful enough to keep him off the ice and away from the game. And if by some chance it happens to be a bone spur, then it's best Andrej get the surgery now and begin his rehab immediately.

Our 26yr old defenseman has played 62-games this season, scoring 7-Goals and assisting on 18 others. In this season alone he's recorded 144-hits, and 88-blocked shots. What a soldier.

Meszaros is inked until the end of the 2013-14 season where he'll become a UFA and up for re-signing.

Personally I believe handing Andrej an extension in Philadelphia is a no-brainer.

Feel better, Mesz...
