Earlier on Wednesday the Flyers were happy to report that they and head coach Peter Laviolette have agreed to a contract extension --
"We are thrilled to have Peter continue his work with our group as we push to compete for the Stanley Cup,” Holmgren said. “Peter has done a terrific job for us and is very deserving of this extension."
Deserving to say the least.
Laviolette's been one of our greatest bench bosses to ever reign from the Flyers corner. As Broad Street Hockey's pointed out, not since Mike Keenan has Philadelphia had a head coach post back-to-back seasons with 47-wins. His record since taking over for the Orange & Black is 122-73-26, which has ranked the Flyers 3rd in wins in the League.
His new contract will carry him through till the 2014-15 season.
Congrats, Lavy!
