Earlier today TSN's own NHL insider Bob McKenzie broke the news that the Carolina Hurricanes claimed former Philadelphia Flyers forward Andreas Nodl off of waivers. Nodl tallied a total of 1-point (1 A) in 12-games played this season for the Orange & Black, and has a +/- rating of minus-1.

The point is, Dubinsky's cutting on two players who may not even see a shift at the Winter Classic (Shelley, scratched. Rinaldo, loaned back to the Phantoms) if this Flyers roster gets healthy.

When I think of RIVALRY, I think of a team where there was never love lost. That team is the NY Rangers, the Bullies' dance partner at this years Winter Classic.

Last night's loss is a perfect example of how the Flyers manage to beat themselves out of a comeback. The chances are there and we've got the talent to capitalize. But it's our own depressing incompetence that anchors our success to the seabed of the loss column. It's getting old. Fast. No more excuses.

Before last night, Carolina was on a three game losing streak that began with the Flyers exactly one week ago today. Yesterday they managed to break the skid with a win over the Leafs. Nevertheless, Carolina seems to be a squad our Flyers have had more success against than not. Especially this season, with the series record standing at 2 - 0. The 'Canes know this and look to soak in some payback tonight.

One thing each and every male on this planet can relate to is an injury to his "yogurt factory." We've seen videos on the internet hilariously showing a man taking a shot to the chones from his child's swung wiffle ball bat. But it's not always fun and games.

All in all it was a solid effort for the orange and black squad. This team is scary good when they are firing on all cylinders. If people weren’t before, they definitely are standing up and taking notice now of the young guns from south Philly.

Hopefully Gus is one to bounce back from rehab 100%, and quicker than expected. His hockey smarts were promised, expected and delivered in his five game window, but it was his surprising physical play that added the cherry on top of my mountain of excitement for the young defender.

A lot of talk about the Coyotes knowing Ilyas weaknesses and will exploit them tonight. I think it comes down to coaching, controlling his rebounds and clearing the front of his crease more than anything tonight. No more BLIND PASSES across ice as well! (Looking at you JVR)

Heading into Monday night, our orange and black brigade never fancied a promising reputation with back-to-back contests. More often than not, the Flyers would split these games between the win and loss departments, but because of the wizardry fusing Claude Giroux and Jaromir Jagr together on the scoreboard, and Matt Read dusting the rough off his diamond exterior, the Bullies tallied another 'W' to their record and secured their position atop the Eastern Conference against the Carolina Hurricanes.
