Second time the Flyers and Devils will face-off this season.
Anytime the Flyers get to face Marty Brodeur, future Hall of Famer, it's a big deal. Even if it's November, the Flyers have had his number the last few seasons, so it will be nice to see how........Hang on, this just in. No Brodeur tonight. It's "All you can eat wings night" at Applebees so he will not be starting. Can't play when you have trouble making it through the door.
Johan "Moose" Hedberg* (I used to be a backup, I still am but I used to, too) will be between the pipes and Devils Nation is hoping for a better effort from him than Marty last night against the Leafs.
In one period last night Joffrey Lupul scored more goals than Ilya Kovalchuk has done in 10 games. Ilya is having a tough year; 2 goals, 5 assists and a minus 7 for the 100-Million Dollar Man (Somewhere, Brodeur is thinking how many wings $100-million could get him).
Facing Hedberg will be Ilya Bryzgalov, a Russian who knows Kovalchuk very well. Bryz coming off a very tough win in Buffalo last night, will look for his second shutout against New Jersey this ye..... Wait, Sergei Bobrovsky will be between the pipes for the Flyers.
Okay, battle of the backups in South Philly tonight.
Bob has played well this season. Scratch that Winnipeg game from his stats and he has a .918 save percentage and a 2.01 GAA. Not having to be "The Man" for the Flyers has seemed to relax Sergei. You can tell considering he's controlled the amount of rebounds he's given up. With Flyers killer Patrick Elias, and always dangerous Zack Parise on the ice, he'd better do more of the same tonight.
Hartnell, Giroux and Jagr. Yes, the line....
#ThingsLastingLongerThanKimsMarriage. How 'bout #TryingToComeUpWithCleverNamesForThisLine.
Hartnell has been ON FIRE recently (Probably has to do to the fact I traded him in my Fantasy League this past week. You're welcome), 5 goals, 5 assists and a plus 6 in his last 5 games has quieted his doubters. Captain Gravity always gives 110% on every shift, so it's good to see he's finally being rewarded with some playing time alongside a future Hall of Famer and a guy named Jagr.
Look for another defensive struggle tonight. The Devils and Flyers start at 7pm, puck drops at 7:05, at 7:09 Brodeur will be on his third helping of Chocolate Mousse, and Kovalchuk will be trying to pull the same move he does time after time again.
Lets go Flyers!
*RIP Mitch Hedberg
